How to use the QR Code Scanner
QR codes appear on menus, posters, parcels, tickets and payment terminals. This scanner reads them on any computer or phone with a modern browser, with no app to install, and it is also handy for decoding a QR code in a screenshot or image you have been sent.
Press Start camera and allow camera access when your browser asks. Point the camera at the code, holding it steady with the whole code inside the frame. Detection usually takes a fraction of a second. The camera stops after a successful scan unless you tick the option to keep scanning. Alternatively, choose or drop an image file containing a QR code.
The result shows the decoded content with helpful actions: links get an Open button, email addresses and phone numbers can be started directly, and Wi-Fi codes show the network name, password and security type. Everything can be copied. Your last ten scans are listed for this session.
Scanning happens entirely on your device using your browser’s built-in barcode detector where available, or the open-source jsQR library. Video and images are never uploaded. Be careful with codes in public places: check where a link goes before opening it, as scammers sometimes place fake codes over real ones.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the camera not start?
Your browser needs permission and a secure (https) page. Check the camera permission in your browser settings, or upload a photo instead.
Is the camera video recorded or uploaded?
No. Frames are analysed locally in your browser and never leave your device.
Can it scan barcodes too?
This scanner is designed for QR codes. Regular product barcodes are not supported.
