Generate strong random passwords right in your browser.

How to use: Choose a length and the character types you want. A new password appears, ready to copy.

How to use the Password Generator

Weak and reused passwords are the main reason accounts get hacked. A long, random password that is different for every site is the single best defence you can have, and a generator makes creating one effortless.

Drag the slider to choose a length and tick the character types you want. The password is created with your browser’s cryptographically secure random number generator, and the tool guarantees at least one character from each selected group. A strength line estimates the entropy in bits: around 60 bits is fair for low-risk accounts, while 80 bits or more is very strong. Length matters more than complexity, so choose at least 14 characters, and 20 or more for important accounts.

Switch on “avoid look-alikes” if you will ever need to type the password by hand, since it removes confusing characters such as capital I, lowercase l, the number 1, capital O and zero. Some websites restrict symbols, so untick that box if a site rejects your password.

Generated passwords are never saved, logged or sent anywhere; they exist only on your screen. Store them in a reputable password manager rather than a note or a browser field you cannot protect, and turn on two-factor authentication wherever it is offered.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a password be?

At least 14 characters for ordinary accounts and 20 or more for email, banking and password managers.

Is this generator secure?

Yes. It uses the browser’s cryptographic random source and runs entirely on your device without storing anything.

Should I use the same password on multiple sites?

No. If one site is breached, reused passwords let attackers into your other accounts.
