URL Encoder & Decoder

Percent-encode or decode URLs and inspect query parameters.

How to use: Paste a URL or text, then choose Encode or Decode to convert it.

How to use the URL Encoder & Decoder

Web addresses can only contain a limited set of characters. Spaces, accents, symbols and anything outside that set are replaced by a percent sign followed by two hexadecimal digits, so a space becomes %20. This process is called percent-encoding or URL encoding.

Use Encode component when you are encoding a single value, such as a search term that will go inside a query string. It also encodes characters like “&”, “=”, “?” and “/” so they cannot be mistaken for URL structure. Use Encode full URL when you have a complete address and only want to escape unsafe characters while keeping the structure intact. Decode reverses the process and also turns plus signs into spaces, as used in form submissions.

The Parse URL button breaks a complete link into its protocol, host, path, query string and fragment, and lists each query parameter with its decoded value. That makes long tracking links and redirect URLs much easier to read.

If decoding fails, the text probably contains a stray percent sign that is not followed by two valid hex digits. Fix or remove it and try again. Everything runs locally on your device, so private links are not logged anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between encoding a component and a full URL?

Component encoding escapes every reserved character, including slashes and question marks. Full-URL encoding leaves those characters so the address still works.

Why do I see %20 in links?

%20 is the percent-encoded form of a space character.

Why does decoding show an error?

A percent sign must be followed by two hexadecimal digits. A lone “%” or an invalid sequence cannot be decoded.
