How to use the Image Cropper
Cropping removes distracting edges, straightens the focus on your subject and makes a picture fit the shape a website or social network expects. This cropper lets you do it visually or with exact pixel values.
Open a photo and a crop box appears in the middle. Drag anywhere outside the box to draw a new one, drag inside it to move it, and drag the white square in the bottom-right corner to resize it. The darkened area shows what will be cut away, and the thin grid helps you place the subject using the rule of thirds.
Choose an aspect ratio to lock the shape. Square 1:1 suits profile pictures, 4:5 is the tallest feed post on Instagram, 9:16 fits stories and reels, and 16:9 matches video thumbnails and widescreen slides. If you need exact dimensions, type the X, Y, width and height in pixels.
Rotate in 90-degree steps to fix sideways phone photos, or flip the picture horizontally for a mirror image. Save as JPG for photos, PNG for graphics with sharp edges, or WebP for small files. The image is cropped at full resolution on your own device and never uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
Does cropping reduce quality?
No. Cropping keeps the original pixels in the area you choose. Only saving as JPG or WebP applies light compression.
What size is best for a profile picture?
Most networks use a square crop. Choose 1:1 and keep at least 400 × 400 pixels so it looks sharp.
Can I crop on my phone?
Yes. The crop box works with touch: drag to draw, move or resize it.
