How to use the JPG to PNG & PNG to JPG Converter

JPG and PNG are the two most common image formats, but they behave very differently. JPG uses lossy compression that makes photographs small, while PNG is lossless and supports transparent backgrounds, which makes it the better choice for logos, screenshots and graphics with text.

Select one or several images, or drag them onto the box, then choose the target format. Each file is converted immediately and appears in a list with a thumbnail, the new dimensions, the before and after file size and a Download button. You can convert up to 30 files in one go.

When you convert a PNG with transparent areas to JPG, the transparency has to be replaced by a solid color. White is the default, and you can pick another background color before converting. For JPG and WebP, the quality slider controls the balance between size and sharpness. Converting JPG to PNG will not improve quality, because the compression artifacts already in the picture are preserved, and the PNG will usually be larger.

Everything happens in your browser through the canvas element, so your pictures are never uploaded or stored. WebP output depends on your browser: current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari support it, and the tool will tell you if your browser cannot export a format.

Frequently asked questions

Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?

No. It keeps the existing quality but the file will usually be larger because PNG is lossless.

What happens to transparency when converting to JPG?

JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background color you choose.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Conversion happens locally in your browser.
