Face Blur Tool
Hide faces in photos automatically before you share them, privately on your device.
How to use: Choose a photo. Faces are detected and blurred automatically. Change the style or strength, untick any face you want to keep, then download.
Uses the open-source BlazeFace detector (MediaPipe, Apache-2.0) on your device. About 12 MB downloads once. Works best on faces that look roughly towards the camera.
How to use the Face Blur Tool
Photos of crowds, classrooms, street scenes or events often include people who did not agree to be online. Blurring their faces protects their privacy and is required by many schools, workplaces and community rules. This tool finds faces automatically so you do not have to draw over each one.
Choose a photo and the open-source BlazeFace detector, which runs in your browser, marks every face it finds. They are blurred straight away. Switch the style to pixelate, a solid black box or an emoji, raise the strength until faces are unrecognisable and widen the cover area to include hair and ears. Each detected face has a checkbox, so you can leave your own face, or a speaker on stage, visible.
If a face is missed, lower the detection threshold and the photo is scanned again. The detector works best when faces are reasonably large and facing the camera; tiny faces in the distance or faces in profile can be missed, so always check the result before posting. For a manual fix, crop the photo or blur a missed area in another editor.
Download the finished photo as a JPG. Because everything happens on your device, sensitive photos are never uploaded to a server.
Frequently asked questions
Is blurring permanent?
Yes, in the downloaded file. The original pixels are replaced, so keep your original if you need it later.
Why was a face not detected?
Small, blurry or side-on faces are hard to find. Lower the detection threshold or crop closer and try again.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. Face detection runs locally in your browser.
