How to play Word Guess

Word Guess is a five-letter word puzzle in the style of popular daily word games. A secret word is chosen, and you have six attempts to find it. After each guess every tile is coloured: green means the letter is correct and in the right place, yellow means it is in the word but in a different position, and grey means it is not in the word at all.

Type a word with your keyboard or the on-screen keys and press Enter to submit. The on-screen keyboard remembers what you have learned and colours its keys to match. Choose “Random word” for an endless supply of puzzles or “Word of the day”, which gives everyone the same word on the same date and changes at midnight in your local time.

A good opening guess uses common letters and different letters in each position, such as words with several vowels. Use your second guess to test new letters rather than repeating ones you already know, and think about where yellow letters cannot be. Remember that a letter can appear twice, and the colours handle duplicates carefully: a repeated letter only turns yellow as many times as it truly appears elsewhere.

This game has its own word list drawn from common English words, and it accepts any five-letter combination as a guess. It is a pleasant, quick way to build vocabulary and practise deduction.
