Audio & Video Tools
Record your screen or your voice, have text read aloud, dictate text with your microphone or keep time with a metronome, all without installing software. These tools use the media features built into modern browsers. Recordings are created and saved on your device and are never uploaded, and the browser always asks before using your camera, microphone or screen.

What each audio and video tool does
- Screen recording: the screen recorder captures a tab, window or your whole screen for tutorials, bug reports and presentations.
- Voice notes: the voice recorder records from your microphone and lets you download the clip.
- Listening and dictation: text to speech reads text aloud, which helps with proofreading, and speech to text turns your voice into typed text.
- Practice: the metronome keeps a steady beat for music practice.
Permissions and privacy
Your browser asks for permission before using the microphone or recording the screen, and you can withdraw that permission at any time in the browser settings. Recordings are made and saved on your device. Speech recognition and voices depend on your browser and operating system, so results vary between Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox; in some browsers, speech recognition is handled by the browser maker’s online service rather than on your device. To estimate how long a script will take to read aloud, paste it into the word counter, and see how many words is a page for speaking-time estimates. If you are recording yourself typing, compare your result with the average typing speed.
