💻 Developer Guides guides

Short, accurate explanations of the formats web developers meet every day, with links to the official specifications.

Formats every web developer meets

Modern web work is full of small data formats: JSON for APIs and config files, Base64 for putting binary data inside text, UUIDs for unique IDs, and HEX or RGB codes for colours. Each one has a precise specification, but you rarely need to read it end to end. You need to know what the format is for, how to recognise it, the common mistakes, and a quick way to check your data. That is what these guides give you.

Security reminders

Encoding is not encryption. Base64 and URL encoding only change how data is written, and anyone can reverse them. Hashes are one-way but not all hashes are suitable for passwords. Never paste production secrets, private keys or customer data into online tools you do not trust, and prefer tools, like ours, that run entirely on your device.
